Just changed out the water pump on my '85 300sd because the seals failed and it started pouring coolant out. It looks to be in overall good shape, it's branded meyle so I believe it's been changed at some point before. It didn't struggle to keep the motor cool but was leaking about a gallon of fluid per day.

The waterpump is a good idea if you're replacing the timing belt, and you don't know how old the waterpump is. Don't buy the Hepu (from germanautoparts/GAP) or Graf waterpump (looks like it may be made by the same company). I just bought a Hepu waterpump from another Vortex member who bought it fro GAP. The casting is crude, the bearing appears to be fine, but the impeller is stamped steel (which I don't like), and the finish work is mediocre, bordering on poor. For less money and free shipping you can get a Meyle waterpump from autohausaz.com.
