I run the PA4's in stock 18\" size and they do fine down here in southwest ohio. If I was further north and typically got more snowfall I'd probably have gone with a more straight up snow tire opposed to a performance snow tire.

I run Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s all year round in the UK with no issues. Good tyres.
I highly recommend Michelin A/S 3+ all weathers. They are amazing, my only issue so far is that they’re a little loud (road noise in the summer), but they have incredible grip, and seem to hold out great given the crazy weather.
I'll second the opinions on the pa4's. They definitely lack some grip compared to a more pure snow tire, but they are a good compromise, and I definitely run out of clearance before I run out of snow traction.
Have you experienced any issues with the Michelins? I run them and they have been flawless.
I never had to use more than an ounce and a half on any of the name brand tires I mounted. Never needed more than a half ounce on Michelins.
I went with Pilot Sport 4's, as the 4S isn't available in 18" size. Absolutely fantastic tires. They have more grip and feel in the wet than the Nankangs that the car came with had IN THE DRY. You can really play with the too, when it's wet. Doesn't really eat the surface then, and the car is very controllable and fun to drift. In the dry they are amazing. Can't even compare them to anything else I've driven. Comfort and noise are good on the road, and the tire is stiff enough to take it to the track occasionally.
I drove Michelin Pilot Super Sports on the highway in subzero weather on icy roads which are ZR rated because someone stole my car before I had my winter tires mounted.
They hit the ditch in the car.
I drive my RWD performance summer tires in sub freezing temps when it’s dry out, WITH caution. It will be like using hard plastic tires. No sudden shift in weight please!
I got 35K miles on my 2012 OEMs GYs and bgt michelin Lattitudes as replacements that had 30K+ miles when I traded in for emissions scandal and they still had plenty of thread. They are not bad considering the weight of the car.
