1st gent toyota tundra. Bullet-proof motor, solid transmission ; terrible lower ball joint design.
So far, just LBJs and regular maintenance.
My 02 had the recall done somewhere around 2017. Seems to be holding up Great!
except the ball joints. replace those son bitches with some sealed/permagreased. i am in a 2012.
I paid like 230 for oem Lbjs from Toyota on Amazon. Then 20 for the bolts from my local dealer
Buy the parts oem from ourismantoyotaofrichmond.com, they are a Toyota dealership that specializes in selling parts based out in Virginia, they sell the ball joints for $120 each and outer tie rods for $75 each the tie rods are a little pricey, maybe you can look at other dealerships, but the ball joint price is hard to beat for oem.
I had just bought my new 2003 Tundra, and at 35k, the dealer replaced the ball joints. I've got 365k on the Tundra, and the ball joints are still tight
You might want to consider genuine Toyota ball joints; they are the same quality as the ones that lasted 11 years
Ah, he never checked his lower ball joint... Older Toyota's truck are known to do this.
Toyota lower balljoint failures are shockingly common...I don't understand why they don't turn them the other way around so if they fail they don't completely FALL OUT like this.
