Now I have a 19 R DSG, and I've tracked it twice (Summit Point and VIR) with nothing more than new rotors, Ferodo brake pads and Motul 500 fluid. I never had any overheating issues with either the brakes or the oil, but both weekends were cooler weather.
Owner reviews for brake pads
The CPO contract goes into effect once I replace the worn brakes (pads and rotors) which can happen anytime- Service Rep said I can do it anytime but preferably soon (end of summer)- the brakes are fine to drive on now though
Akebono break pads. Thank me later
I run Akebono pads and they barely create any dust compared to oem pads. There is less of an initial bite when braking though
Akebono ceramic pads. 99% of the dust is gone.
I run the Akebono ceramic pads and they helped a lot.
Switch to EBC red pads if you aren’t gonna track it
I can recommend TRW „DTEC“ pads. Almost no brake dust, no squeaking, good bite on the breaks. The only trade of is that when it’s really cold or raining and you drive on the highway for a long time, the first half of a second when you break again the performance is weak. That’s what I experienced. I never had this with the original pads in winter time or heavy rain.
Just did the rear brakes on my wife’s subaru, the dealership was back ordered on the OEM pads and had centric ceramics.
I am always happy using the cheapest ceramic pads I can find and the cheapest rotors I can find, no matter what car its going on. I have expensive Hawk Performance Ceramic on my STI and they're actually worse than the cheap stuff. Tons of dust and even some noise.
