I have a 2019 Forrester. 100k miles. Burns no oil somehow. I monitor it closely. I've changed the CVT fluid 2 times. Zero issues. I change my own oil every 5k miles. It's been so easy to own but maybe I'm lucky.

Pros: no oil burning, zero issues
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
Mileage: 100000 km

RED LINE CVT fluid

I use Redline CVT No Slip. It’s spec’d for my Mitsubishi Mirage, meets J4 standard. Very grabby fluid, it’s more responsive than it ever was with the factory fluid. Glad to hear it worked out for you. Be sure to stay on top of the service intervals.

Pros: very grabby, more responsive
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Mirage

Bought my 2020 Rogue at 53k. Just did the CVT service myself at 59k with Castrol CVT Transmax and replaced both filters. Over the last 1500-2000 miles I noticed the CVT working harder via engine revs and a slight decrease in “shift” smoothness. Originally I thought it was from cold Midwest weather. After replacing, the CVT and engine don’t even work nearly as hard. The old fluid was DIRTY as well as the internal filter. The magnets had sludge/grime on them. If you can do this starting at 30k miles vs 60k I highly recommend. I couldn’t be happier and recommend everyone do their own service.

Pros: smoother shifts, engine works less
Vehicle: Nissan
Mileage: 59000 km

Seems high, but I’d be leery of going to independent shop for the cvt fluid. You really want to keep that as Subaru brand and the dealer will do the transmission relearn procedure.

Pros: dealer does relearn procedure
Cons: high price

OEM Toyota CVT fluid

Change your eCVT fluid and rear differential. I have a 2024 Rav4 Prime and was expecting it to be a difficult job but if you can do an oil change you can change out those fluids. I did mine around 35,000 miles. Rear diff magnet had a lot of particles stuck on it.

Pros: easy job, DIY possible
Cons: magnet had particles
Vehicle: Toyota
Mileage: 56327 km

OEM Honda CVT fluid

My mechanic pulled the fill plug, drained the fluid into a measuring container and filled the same amount of the replacement fluid. I paid $100 all said and done, using OEM CVT fluid.

Pros: straight forward, oem fluid

Mitsuboshi CVT fluid

Your CVT will last much longer if you change the oil. Take it to the stealership if low skills won't change it. Put synthetic fluid in it. Don't shock load it, and don't do burn outs. The one in my Lancer had 350 000km on it, no issues.

Pros: CVT will last longer
Cons: Don't shock load it
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Lancer
Mileage: 350000 km

OEM Honda CVT fluid

Rating 3.5

CVT service intervals are 30k miles. Change your fluid every 20k-25k. 30k intervals WILL lead to premature failure unless you drive exclusively on Kansas highways. Stick to Honda fluid (HCF-2 for CVT).

Pros: good fluid quality
Cons: premature failure at 30k
Vehicle: Honda

The fluid only lasts 30K miles. Not 33K, not 50K, only 30K maximum. After that it loses a huge amount of it's lubrication and cooling qualities quite fast. Change fluid and filters every 30K. Use only OEM. These transmissions take Mitsubishi J4 CVT Fluid.

Pros: OEM recommended
Cons: loses qualities fast
Mileage: 48280 km
