I run Amsoil full synthetic CVT fluid and drain / fill every 30k miles. 180,000 miles of this. Runs like a dream. No issues.
Owner reviews for CVT fluid
I went with Idemitsu fluid on mine which 12 quarts cost me 145 at NAPA.
I use Valvoline every 30k. Every 60k will guarantee you replace the transmission at 100k.
There are much more cost effective alternatives to Subaru fluids that meet or exceed the OEM specifications, including Amsoil Synthetic CVT Fluid, ENEOS ECO CVTF/ENEOS Import CVTF Model S, Idemitsu CVTF Type SB2 (which is often the OEM fluid in a different bottle) and Valvoline CVT Full Synthetic.
Amsoil CVT fluid is the only thing going into my 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5. The Amsoil fluid is 100% synthetic, not a synthetic blend.
Same question for Europe: Subaru in Germany recommends cvt fluid change every 45 000km on heavy duty and every 90 000 on standard usage.
Ive had a 2017 nissan sentras cvt didnt have a single problem @127,000 is miles and I beat the ever leaving shit out of the cvt (valvoline only)
I've used Valvoline universal CVT fluid in a 2015 Accord without any issues.
I used valvoline cvt fluid and the trans lasted me 55k miles. Granted i dont drive that much so it was over 2 years but i did constant fluid changes with valvoline. Now i stick with oem nissan fluid. Maybe just maybe it’ll last a bit longer
At what point would you recommend to change CVT fluid in a 2018 Forester? A relative has one with 45k miles and it developed a quiet “howling” noise starting at around 50mph. It is not very loud and we cannot the if it’s coming from the CVT. It doesn’t go away when transmission is shifted into Neutral at that speed. Front and rear differential fluid has been replaced.
