I run Pennzoil Platinum in mine (same engine) which is another popular oil. 5w-30 btw.
Owner reviews for engine oil
I've been using Mobil 1 5W30 since I bought this car. My car has been tuned to my K04 and fuel limits for years and it's heavily abused daily. At 60K I'm still rocking 180psi compression, no turbo issues or VVT issues. As long as you change your oil regularly you should be fine, just stick to synthetics.
Castrol Magnatec 5w-30. Love me some Castrol.
I use Mobil1 5W-30 in my R53. Checked with my dealer + that's what they use also. Served my car + me well for 135k miles so far.
[Valvoline SynPower](http://www.valvoline.com/products/brands/synpower/full-synthetic-motor-oil/5) is what I have run since I purchased my 2012 Subaru Legacy.
I use Castrol or Pennzoil most of the time (N/A engine or I'd use Rotella) haven't had any issues with it.
Rotella T6 is very popular for turbo Subarus. It's 5w-40, which has some advantages. It's cheap at $20/gallon.
I ran this for 200k and ways very happy with results. Had the oil tested twice in a lab and was happy with the results.
After oil change where I previously had 5W-30 with valvoline dino, I changed with a different brand 5W-30 (Peak brand). Ticking noise started immediately from engine area usually only after it got up to temperature. So I pulled out a quart from the diptube with my suction device and put in a quart of 10W-40. Almost immediately PROBLEM GONE.
Thanks sp_golf - went with liqui moly 10w60. it may be my imagination, but the motor seems to run a little smoother and it feels more responsive - but I have no #'s to prove any of that. What I can prove is my oil temps were definitely more manageable and I didn't burn nearly as much oil as the 5w40 I was using previously.
