AMSOIL Engine oil

Yeah...same reason I switched. I love Amsoil...and so do my engines trannies and diffs. It just gets too expensive using the Amsoil engine oil with the oil change frequencies that I use ( Every 8,000KM ).

Pros: love Amsoil
Cons: gets too expensive
Mileage: 8000 km

AMSOIL Engine oil

Rotella T6 here. I was a long time Amsoil guy, but it's just too fracking expensive, especially with the amount of miles I drive a week.

Cons: too fracking expensive

  • Exhaust smoke:

Those engines do burn oil. Clogged PCV would be the first to eliminate. Go w/a HD 5w-40 like Rotella.

Pros: HD 5w-40 oil
Cons: clogged PCV

MOTUL Engine oil

Good quality synth 5w40 alllll dayyy eryyy dayyy. Flip open your owner's manual, 5w40 is the recommended oil. 30 weight thins out too much during extended drive periods or in high temp areas. FWIW the previous owner of my Golf sold it because it was an "oil burner" he was using gas station brand dino 5w30 :screwy: I switched to Motul and then Gulf 5w40, and drove it for 55k+ kms, had to add about 1L between my 10K OCIs.

Pros: recommended oil, good quality
Cons: thins out too much
Mileage: 55000 km

  • Engine noise:

Perhaps an oil change using a quality branded oil would help to mitigate those issues. Some years ago I bought a second hand Mitsubishi Pajero 3.0V6 24V with 30.000km on the clock. I had a ticking noise produced by the valve lifters. After the first oil change using quality branded synthetic oil the ticking dissapeared.

Pros: ticking noise disappeared
Cons: ticking noise present
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Pajero
Mileage: 30000 km

I just did the 4th oil change (first non-dealer change) on our 40k mile Tiguan TSI and used Rotella T6. I use it in my stage 2 WRX and think it's fantastic, so why not in the TSI. Great oil overall.

Pros: great oil overall
Mileage: 40000 km
