I ran Edge 5w-30 in my APR 2.0 TSI last winter, had the used oil tested at CAT afterwards for $13, and it did a great job.

Just changed my oil @ 2k with Rotella T6. Sounds much quitters and feels a lot smoother. I've always used this and it's a damn good oil.
I've decided to buy the Motul 8100 X-Clean 5W-40 for my first oil change. It's fully synthetic, low SAPS and has a high shearing tolerance. Even the TBN is relatively decent.
Absolutely. Great oil for your car.
I'm running Amsoil in my 06 GTi and loving it. No trouble with that I can tell, I check dipstick every fillup occasionally have to add some but not a quart, not even .25 of a quart. I've got almost 72k on the clock I did my last oil change around 67500 maybe a little more, and oil is still clean. Car sounds no louder or different from oil dealer had put in it.
Anyway, when I had my Passat 1.8T and sludge issues were the big fad, my oil of choice was Valvoline Synpower 5w40. It met 502 and was not a synthetic blend but rather a real synthetic.
When I dumped my dealer Syntec 5w-40 for M1 0w-30 in Dec, it was night-and-day. Way lighter and better.
I have noticed my car is "running better" with the Rotella, and i have not had to top it off at all compared to running Motul 5w40 i had to add quite a bit over my OCI.
If you want it quiet and smooth, run 10w-40. If you want best mpg or live in the cold 1/2 the year, run 5w-30. 10w-30 is a-ite in many cases. It'll burn less than 5w-30....generally.
Looks to be exact same procedure as on my e46. Perhaps the easiest oil change I've ever done. In fact, I've used the same brand and spec oil too, which is an BMW LL-01.
