Castrol Engine oil

Castrol Edge is usually cheaper than Mobil 1 and will be as good.

Can use 5w30 or 5w40.

0w40 or 5w40 will give you slightly better engine protection if you drive at high rpms more often.

I wouldn't use anything cheaper or different than those two really. You don't need more expensive oils than those either.

Pros: good engine protection
Cons: expensive oils
Vehicle: Toyota Celica

XADO Engine oil

  • Exhaust smoke:

I got an Audi 80 B3 1,8 S 1988 around 8 years ago. First time I had to change its oil I decided go big. It was around 160-170 000 kilometres with no blowing from the oil cap while the engine is running. So i got XADO 10w-60 luxury drive. It's a bit expensive but it payed of in the end. 200 000 kilometres later there's still no smoke from the oil cap and I get barely 0.1 CO emission maximum when measuring.

Pros: no smoke from oil cap
Cons: a bit expensive
Vehicle: Audi 80
Mileage: 170000 km

Mobil Engine oil

I would trust a 0W-20 in a Toyota or Honda. After all, Honda and Idemitsu invented 0W-20, while Toyota worked with Idemitsu on 0W-8. I’ll reluctantly use it in a Subaru(and it must be Mobil 1 ESP X2 or Castrol Edge gold bottle with Mercedes/BMW/VW and/or GM dexosD/dexos2 approvals) but switch over to a ILSAC or Euro 5W-30 once warranty is up.

Vehicle: Toyota

OEM Hyundai Engine oil

  • Warning light:

I had a car, 2009 Hyundai Elantra, that would endlessly trip codes for valve timing. It had 180,000 miles. I switched from 5w20 to 10w30 and never had another problem. Car went to the junkyard at 260,000 miles.

Pros: never had another problem
Mileage: 180000 km
