Had this happen to my 2017 CR-V about a year ago. As another reply mentioned, it ended up being fuel injectors, no problems since getting them replaced.
Owner reviews for fuel injector
Just had to replace an injector on my '04 Park Ave Ultra. I replaced it with an OEM Bosch injector. The car runs like brand new now.
This happened on my 2021 atlas under 15000 miles - took to dealer and replaced 3 failed fuel injectors. Rode like a new car and no more stuttering or stalling.
when doing research I noticed the lb/hr rates for injectors vary somewhat widely across the whale model years. Bought OEM injectors and behavior went away. the injectors that came out were the wrong lb/hr (you can differentiate by colored tabs on injectors there are several forum posts on injector identification). ECM could adjust but it didn't like it. Would intermittently but not consistently throw bank 1 and 2 lean codes.
Start with an injector rebuild with higher flow nozzles. Doesn't really require a ECU tune for it. But, then you can get an ECU tune for it.
So far I have replaced an injector on cilinder 3 (which has/had missfires). This helped a bit but not everything, still white smoke and a little rough when cold.
Is an injector stuck open or something that's causing the raw fuel smell?
My 2015s CVT blew up shortly after I bought it used. And I also had to replace the fuel injectors on my dime.
My first car, a 2009 Ford Fiesta (which was my dad’s before me so it had been in the family for about ten years), started shuddering and then came to a complete halt on the middle lane of the motorway. Turned out to be a dodgy fuel injector.
Honda factory put in a defective fuel injector(s), and had to replace all of them. Got my vehicle back yesterday and in less than 24 hours, the engine starts bucking again and no power. The only difference now is that the emissions failure message came up on the dash computer screen. Now my vehicle limped back to the dealership for repairs that they supposedly already fixed. The service manager is telling us that because it’s a brand new type of engine that Honda is still trying to work out the bugs from the engine. If it goes in one more time for something else then Honda will be getting a lawsuit for selling me a lemon.
