Owner reviews for thermostat
I installed a Gates 33009S 195 degree after my Hughes install and haven’t had issues.
The brand new thermostat wasn’t opening all the way. One new Gates thermostat fixed the issue.
Big fan of the Motorad SNN-2000-195. Works great.
Since going with the OEM thermostat, my temp gauge has stayed pinned just below the middle of the gauge, even towing campers and heavy loads on hot days.
After doing some research I found that AISIN is likely the supplier for the Subaru OEM thermostats so I ordered them off of Amazon (sold and shipped by Amazon) and they appear to be just that. They were close to the same price and are made in Japan. AISIN THF-007/009 appear to be true OEM Subaru thermostats for FB20B
Common for the thermostat and/or coolant control valve to fail on newer Mazda 3s. It's not a big deal but you might have more coolant loss and it takes longer to warm up.
issue that i noticed is that the jiggle pin is inside the bridge, compared to the standard one. i have installed the thermostat, bled the coolant, and still made sure that the jiggle pin and head gasket carve out lines up at the 12oclock position when installing; but now theres some ticking noise sometimes and i can feel my heater blowing really hot air (warmer than the usual heat).
Had thermostat replaced at 10k. Been fine since that. The thermostat thing is funny. Back in the day those cost $10 and you could do yourself easy. Now it’s some complicated module costing $250.
Motorad isn't a good brand. You don't want to do the job again in a year.
