Ended up putting Lemforder tie rods as well. It feels like a new car !!!
Owner reviews for tie rods
I just did my entire front end. I got the Lemforder kit control arms with the bushings already pressed in, came with the entire tie rod and ball joints. Overall the parts seemed like good quality, and it's infinitely better on the road than it was.
I installed MOOG Tie rods.
This is a worthwhile upgrade for sure! I was about to drop some big bucks on heavy duty steering because after *every* off road trip my alignment was off. I don't wheel hard and I only have 32'' tires. Put on one of these and the alignment is fine. Even after a trip to Rausch creek playing in the rocks all weekend.
When we got it most of the major fluids and mechanicals had been done(timing belt, control arms). It has close to 120k now and after some more maintenance( tie rods, new tires, alignment) it drives brand new, only thing left to replace are the brake pads and rotors.
Anyway, those FEBI-arms was extremely rigid, and they was bone cheap compared to OEM. I HIGHLY recommend them.
Have the same issue with the Meyle replacemants, you have to cut about 1/2 inch of the tread from each side .
You do realize that tierod length is adjustable, don't you? Did you know that there are two different racks used by VW (TRW and ZF)? Are you sure that you received the correct parts? Meyle complete tierods for TRW steering racks are $20.XX from autohaus.az (with free ground shipping on orders over $50). That's less than many companies charge for just the outer tierod. Have you read the Bentley Manual about adjusting the initial overall length of a tierod when installing new ones?
i had to custom make my tie rods, use mk4 outer tie rods because they are about 1" longer per side which should do it, i would just stick with yours and loop your lines or buy this kit, ive done it both ways with the same results, ****ty steering
It was VERY underpowered with the I5, and what a souless sounding racket it made. It also was USELESS off road, we attended a variety of Hummer sponsored off road driving events, broke the tie-rods, CV's, and it even had the transfer case replaced under warranty TWICE.
