Inside of the engine was super clean Gates racing belt, I figure the extra couple bucks is worth it.
Owner reviews for timing belt
Thanks for all of the replies everybody big help love the community I was able to source the parts I needed today timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and pink antifreeze there was green in my car so I flushed it out before I started to do the timing job, which btw took me 7 hours mannnn I’ve never done one of these before and looking at the DIY and YouTube helped a lot but it’s all done and can make it to work tomorrow. If I was off would have started this tomorrow morning I had no choice but to start today at 2:30. Took her for a drive sound was gone car feels great. Again thank you all!
I replaced mine at 80k when it was 8 years old and the belt still looked perfect.
I did my timing belt on my 07 wrx tr @90k miles n i used all oem parts. Imo oem is probably best
when I got my '06 sti 3 years ago I replaced the original belt with roughly the same mileage on it and it looked to be in fine condition despite being 13 years old.
SKF INA FEBI only, never used a torque wrench, tighten so you can turn timing belt about half around. Never had a problem when made in Germany.
Aisin is definitely a go to.
I'm going to swap the Conti belt I installed for a Gates (OEM on this car). I'll let you know how it goes.
I have a 2007 S60 and the timing belt was replaced by a non-specialist soon after I purchased it. The tension on the belt has to be just right, and the non-specialist mechanic way over-torqued it. Had I not noticed the issue and taken the car to a specialist, it could have pulled the engine apart.
He had installed an OEM manufacturer Mitsuboshi timing belt, and it snapped. Apparently it was a knock off. He reinstalled the old belt. I disconnected the injector to the cylinder with a bent valve, and drove it 200 miles home, on 5 cylinders. It actually ran better when I plugged the injector back in, When I got home.
