The car still has the stock Michelin MXV4 Plus 205/55 16H tires. I do not dispute that true snow tires outperform them. These tires suffice for both good and bad weather until one obtains more specialized sets for the seasons one encounters in their area. I plan on getting 17x8 wheels with Kumho 712s for the summer, and going with these for the winter until they wear out. Regardless, 4Mo provides superior safety and handling in any situation.

We've got a FWD model Passat, and we use Nokian Hakkapeliitas in the winter We went out on closed (snowed out) roads in southern Oregon We were passing snow plows and SUVs left and right Not even a bit of wheelspin, it was just like being on dry ground, only quieter 4motion is probably worth it in the northeast
My OE tyres lasted around 60,000km and have now fitted a new set of Pirelli P7s all round.
I just went through the entire process of fitting 15X7 wheels on my '84 GTI. Many people on Vortex had concerns that this combination would be too tight of a fit with 205/50/15 tires (especially the Falken Azenis tires - as they are supposed to be wider at the shoulder than most). I have not had rubbing problems at the shock/ spring support or the wheel wells (except a little when hitting big ol' bumps... where the outside of the tire will slightly rub the fender - nothing to be too alarmed about... just don't hit em')
My car on 15x8's is sporting 195/50 15's and the tires are slightly stretched-- not too stretched in my opinion but just help to round out the sidewall a bit
Well, I love my Falken Ziex 502s.....possibly one of the best "bang for the buck" tire out there.
i have michelin x1 tires and they are excellent....
Bridgestone Potenza RE950 - lotsa grip in wet or dry - had them for a year and not disappointed at all, and I do drive my car very hard.
When the tires are new, or in the first half of their wear, they are almost identical in their performance--both quiet, good wet/dry weather performance and decent in the snow. *But* when I had my bimmer, the Conti's got seemingly harder and louder on the second half of their wear---which is normal for almost any tire with not much tread left.
averick I did run the XGT V4's which were from the factory.. again I still stand by my word that those tires were ASS.
