My 99 V6 just rolled 316k, am looking into my 2nd timing belt/water pump DIY
Owner reviews for water pump
OP, I had my water pump replaced by an independent shop recently. I got the parts from FCP euro for cheaper and used Audi parts instead cause it’s the same damn thing.
I still prefer the Aisin water pumps over the new current Yamada made water pumps. Better fit and finish, fewer leaks/defects (lot of the Yamada pumps are bowed right out of the box), and Aisin breaks the edges whereas the Yamadas are almost cut your hands up levels of sharp
A 525tds was my first car. Only ever had two problems with it. Heater fuse kept blowing- turned out the previous owners install of the head unit used eletrical tape which over time lead to a cable shorting out on the din cage. Water pump died - oem impeller was plastic. The replacement was metal
If it were OEM a rebuild would make sense but a Meyle? Just buy a new one lol
If you're already in there at 101k, replace the water pump and thermostat. That's the only thing that's gone bad on mine 'prematurely', at 85k miles.
Good choice on going with Aisin. I had to redo the job on mine after 2 months when the shitty Gates water pump started pissing out the weep hole. Will never buy another Gates pump again.
It was the water pump in my case, thankfully under warranty.
I recently had to have my water pump replaced. I had the vehicle diagnosed at the dealer and then had an indie mechanic do the work. Saved me a bunch of cash. Mine wasn’t overheating, but it had leaked coolant into the vacuum system which caused my turbo to not build enough boost.
I had this happen 200 miles from home. $7 a mile to have it towed home.
