I love rainx, in heavy rain at speeds above 40mph, it is magic. Anything lower that that, you need to use wipers and it streaks then.
Owner reviews for windshield
I have been using Rain-X since 1986 and have recommended it as if I owned the damn company ever since. Recently though I just started polishing the glass and then waxing it like the rest of the car. It's cheaper, lasts MUCH longer and works just as well.
I use RainX on my windshields, and replace the wipers at the first sign of streaking.
I've noticed a similar problem with the windshield in my 09 CC. Both the stock windshield and the replacement one (an oem VW replacement) that they put in after my accident have like a rippling effect to them that's noticeable when your looking out towards the passenger's side when making a turn. The ripples go from side to side.
I just got my Mazda CX30 and I’m experiencing the same problem! I have to call and get it replaced. Definitely not safe to drive like that, hard to totally focus on the road and gives me a headache.
If your GTI is Mexico built(like mine), it probably has Groupe Vitro glass, as opposed to the Sekurit Saint-Gobain glass in the German built. Sekurit is a far superior product. Since day one, I have had waves in my factory Vitro windshield. I'll replace it soon. Hopefully, with a Sekurit.
The original windshield on my 2018 Model 3 chipped, cracked and.had to be replaced within a year. Never had to do that with other vehicles and I baby this thing.
I have a 17 outback and have replaced windshield three times already. First when I had less than 1k miles.
I had a rock hit the windshield when driving in Los Angeles (right before getting to Disney Land), the next day it was a full blown crack across my entire windshield.
Anecdotally, it seems that the Carlex brand glass is my much more susceptible to chips and cracks than the Pilkington branded glass.
