Recently had my windshield replaced due to large crack from rock. 2017 golf R with DAP. I went to the dealer to have it done, but they do have to have a \"window\" company come in as they do not install glass. However, with the OEM front windshield and install I paid $540 otd. I think with the OEM glass and an installer they has done these before, which I did check beforehand, I think that's a pretty good price. No calibration was required as I used OEM glass which contains required guides for DAP install. So far no issues and DAP related features working just as before.
Owner reviews for windshield
No VW experience, but did have to replace the windshield on a 2016 Mazda 6 with all of the driver aids/cameras/sensors...same as the Golf R w/ DAP. I went with a local Novus guy who had good reviews. He's an owner/operator and did a great job. My insurance paid for an OEM windshield since the car was less than 18 months old.
My 2018 Outback needed a new windshield already and Subaru says to use only Subaru OEM glass because it's made for the EyeSight cameras. They say it needs re-calibration also.
The glass I chose was Pilkington. Don\u2019t use Safelite unless they offer Sekurit or Pilkington. There is a difference in quality. I know Pilkington uses a laminate that reduces sound. They also had an option for a tint strip at the top but didn\u2019t choose it. I had Safelite glass on my 04.5 Jetta GLI which I replaced with an OEM VW windshield and noticed an immediate reduction in wind and road noise and it is much more resistant to rock chips.
Yep. Was especially noticeable on my 15 GTI. Less so on later models but all have it to some degree.
Same thing happened on my 2023 Soul. Now the issue is waiting for a windshield. The 2022 is slightly different and 2023 windshields just don’t seem to exist. It’s been awhile and safelite can’t seem to get Kia to send one.
I had this happen on a previous Forte I had. A rock hit the black area (where the glass is glued) and the crack went across the whole glass. When rocks hit the black area it will almost always cause this type of damage because that part of the car holds a lot of structural weight for the car (vs say the middle of the glass). The glass safelite used was the actual oem glass so it made little difference.
I’m not sure if a rock hit it or what happened. I didn’t hear it or see it but I noticed the crack coming from the bottom driver side corner while driving. It has spread pretty quickly up into my line of sight and over to the passengers line of sight. I read online that there has been some issues with the glass used on the 2023 kias.
My BMW X5 windshield broke on the way home from the dealership. These windshields, or the construction of the car and the pressure on the glass is a huge problem. Folks all over the internet with the same issues.
Unfortunately this is par for the Gen 6 Outback and other Subarus. I'm on my 2nd windshield in 2 years never had one crack on me before in 25 years. Many in this sub are on their 3rd or 4th windshields in under 2 years. The Carlex OEM glass is absolute shit and is known to spontaneous crack. Those cracks don't stay small either they expand rapidly.
