The part # for the Alternator (Automatic trans) is 6H903016L and it's made by Bosh. [Europaparts](https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi_2012_A4-Base-Sedan-20L-AT-Quattro/Alternator/48001649/06H903016L.html) sell's it for $499.95 (OEM).
My car started experiencing the same issue as yours. Randomly lose power, no acceleration, give jump start, two days later, the same issue. Had to have it towed to Nissan. Yes, long story short, it does need a genuine OEM Alternator and OEM Battery! For some reason, the 3rd party parts are not as effective in the product. Once placed in my Nissan, it was commented there have been no issues.
I changed out my original Valeo alternator with a Bosch unit at 100k miles. Never had a problem with either one.
I bought a Bosch reman for my X5 about 3 years ago, no issues whatsoever.
I'm guessing you could be Australian the labour charge would be somewhere between 120 and 150 per hour plus parts which retail close to 550 for a good quality Bosch unit so your not too far off the mark with the quote.
I have only rudimentary experience working on cars, but I got the OEM Bosch for like 300 (less core return deposit after I mailed back the old core). Took me about an hour or so to replace myself.
13V is normal for a stock Bosch alternator. There are 14V or adjustable voltage regulator available as a replacement.
Im having the same issue with my 08 jetta 2.5, replaced the alternator and voltage regulator because the car battery wasnt charging anymore. Anyways replaced the alternator and then I had a high voltage issue with the regulator
FWIW I bought an oreilly\u2019s remanufactured for my e34 a few years ago. It failed and was replaced twice in two years until I just bought the Bosch from FCP. No issues since.
Alternator and the battery are overpriced 2x (google replacement Varta battery and smth like Bosch alternator for your car on pkwteile or idealo).
