Alternator Denso or OEM Volkswagen
Ok, so it's a toyota so odds are it's a denso or denso style alternator. I used to rebuild Alternators, you will need access to test certain parts like the regulator, or diode trio, or the windings to see where it's failing.
Personally I’d go with a Denso 27060‑50230. More expensive but it’s an OE part not third party. The one in your car was originally a Denso and it lasted almost 30 years, right?
If and when it does replace it with a denso and enjoy another 200k+ miles of no problems.
Look into a Denso remanufactured alternator. They are the Honda OE brand and are designed to work with Honda's dual-mode charging system. You can find them for under $300 at places like Rockauto or NAPA. I recently replaced mine on a '13 Honda CRV with no issues.
I recently purchased parts from NAPA. Got a Denso reman alternator, water pump, and belt tensioner.
Buy off rockauto and go with denso brand
Alternator is easy. OEM or Denso for sure. It’s a super easy job.
Get a denso reman or be prepared to replace it again in a year.
4 aftermarket alternators in a Volkswagen Vanagon… after the last shit the bed i insisted on a factory one. That solved the charging system issue.
No, don't get the denso remanufactured, because I got mine and it failed right out of the box.
