Brake caliper Girling or POWER STOP
Fresh rebuilt these where striped completely down glass beaded and then painted they need some touch up from being moved arpund but still look good haven't seen any brake fluid since the rebuild.
I agree that girling 60 are too heavy compared to 54. With good pads 54 offer more than enough stopping power.
I had this retrofit on my Jetta and I was a big fan of it. The unsprung weight complaint I find to be a bit much. As stated above, the weight difference isn't exceptional. The gain here is that you have a greater surface area of clamping force with the addition of an extra caliper piston. Overall, the cost/benefit of this setup is great.
A Mk2 6 line kit will do you just fine here. The Caliper ends up in almost the exact same place as the 9.4 calipers. Ive been runnin Mk2 lines on my 20v car with the Girling 60s for years and theyre not even remotely tight when the car is raised.
Maybe take a look at the Girling 60 calipers and the 11.2 inch rotors from a 'rado g60. Nice large dual piston calipers and 11.2 inch rotors on a mk2 is just about overkill.
i have the girling 60 dual piston calipers i love em i can pretty much lock them any time i want (SS lines and red box pads. stock master cyl)
The Girling60s weigh an absolute ton, but yield no performance advantage over a G60 setup. IMHO better street config is: - 22mm master cyl. Note that the later cabby MC is not 22mm. However the brake booster can accept one. - Corrado G60-compatible quality 11\" discs - Corrado G60 calipers and carriers - Good pads. I run Hawk HPS myself but there are several good choices - An appropriate set of adapters Personally I have rear discs and adjustable brake bias. I found it necessary to tune the balance after installing bigger, bitey-er brakes, and a heavier engine.
Personally because of the problem with using 11" rotors with calipers designed to be used with 10 5/8" calipers, AND the excessive weight, I would stick to a VW based brake upgrade. The Girling 60 calipers will fit on the VR6 and ABA steering knuckles, but the brake pads overhang the inside edge of the 11.0" rotors by just under 1/4".
On my '93 I think I've deduced it's the crappy Girling calipers' slide guide pins being worn and allowing for some play in the calipers or it's just a crap design.
G60's didnt clear the 15's i bought. Went with smaller girling 54's with 11" discs instead cause I liked the wheels to much. Ive heard the g60's are heavy pos anyways.
