Brake discs Centric or STOPTECH
I run centric blanks on a focus st and even on track the rotors haven’t been the problem and focuses are extremely hard on the front brakes because of the ediff. Pads and fluid is where you want to spend your money upgrades on brakes
I have heard from a few people now who do both autocross and lapping days to not get too fussed about rotor selection. Make sure your braking system is in good shape and replace parts as needed, but even the "cheap" rotors will do the job. I have a street/hybrid pad, relatively recent brake fluid, and Centric (I think) rotors off RockAuto. Been working well for me the past couple of years.
I have a non-pp GTI and threw on Centric blank rotors and powerstop z23 pads from Rockauto. Cost around $400 CAD including shipping and tax..super cheap.
No complaints about them, I would certainly buy them again. Very little brake dust but with a strong bite.
I've had Stoptech slotted rotors and EBC Reds for three or four years now. They've been great!
StopTech Sport Slotted rotors have taken a ton of abuse for me and I can't recommend them highly enough
I got ASP pads & fully coated Centric rotors when I did my big brake swap & they treated me well.
I got 75k miles out of my plain centric rotors with hard track use on my GE
daily driving, you can get a full set of bosch pads from rock auto for ~60$. I like stoptech slotted rotors to help get debris off the pads. they also hold up a bit better than standard blanks. drilled rotors are mostly for looks and can crack much easier under heat unless you are spending big bucks on a high end rotor, which imo isn’t worth the cost.
I have the Stoptech Z23 slotted and drilled rotors with carbon ceramic brake pads. Overall, I’m happy with them. The biggest complaint is that they use undersized brake pads, which is a feature that performance pads have in order to accommodate expansion under high heat. Because they’re undersized, when you brake in the opposite direction that you brakes last, they will “click” as they shift slightly inside the caliper. They don’t do it while driving unless you change direction, but I would have considered less aggressive pads if I knew they would do this. That said, I have had zero issues and great braking performance in spirited driving and emergency braking, over the last 45K miles or so.
Centric makes ones that are painted black. I clean them up with brake cleaner and tape off the pad contact area, then use engine enamel spray paint to add an additional coat. I’m up in New England and one winter will do this to rotors. I do the same when I have to replace calipers. Lasts at least 3-4 years In my experience
