Brake pads EBC or Duralast
So i swapped out the OEM pads for some EBC sintered HH pads on my 22' Monster and I have to say the difference is night and day. Initially swapped the pads to try and fix the annoying brake shudder issue i had when slow braking to come to a stop (at a traffic light for example). Also I hated how the OEM pads felt. They were kind of soft and not very good. I ride pretty aggressively and I had a aprilia 660 before which had the same calipers (different master cyl) and the brakes felt way better and more direct because it didnt have such shitty OEM pads. I went for a quick ride after changing the pads and now the brakes feel waaay better and more direct. Paid like 60 bucks for both sides and also cleaned out the pistons and everything while i was at it. Can only recommend it to any 937 owner, because the OEM brake setup with the M32 calipers would be really good but the shitty pads are kind of ruining everything. I cant tell yet tho if the brake shudder issue i had is fully gone. During the test ride i felt like sometimes the front ent wasnt pulsating/grabbing anymore but sometimes it was still there but i hink it takes some time for the new pads to "brake off" all the uneven deposit from the stock pads. I heard that its a problem that the OEM pads also dont really "clean" the rotor well enough so thats why i thought id give the HH a try in the first place. Will go for another ride tomorrow and bed them in a bit more and see if it gets better but im pretty confident.
Got Redstuff for street use only. Everything is fine.
Last set of pads were yellowstuff, they had a nasty bite when low speed braking and whined terribly. Switched to greenstuff, i like them.
Nice middle ground in brake performance, no whine, no low speed bite, no oem shimmy.
Bought reds, burned through them, bought blues, i like them better. A touch more grabby at slow speeds, and slightly more dust, but they held up at an HPDE no problem. The reds did not.
Ebc yellow stuff pads are pretty nice. Got em on my NB. Wouldn’t hurt to replace your pads with those. Break in process asks for new rotors but you can probably get away without em if you really don’t wanna do it, I did.
I put ultimax on my 3, and I can stop on a dime.
I had the same problem. Just ordered ceramic pads from auto zone and swapped them out. Car is smooth and quiet now. I can’t stress enough the difference it makes for anyone dealing with the noisy rough brakes.
I have run both 21 and 11 with an EBC bbk for mk5 Supra. The 21’s had way too much bite imo, the Mu is .65 which was the highest I had ever ran. I think they’d be great with slicks but I run street tires. ABS would trigger about 3/4 pedal travel, not fun. I switched to SR11 and was much happier. In terms of bite they felt much better on street tires. I can still get into ABS but I’d have to brake really hard which is where my muscle memory is anyways. Both pads were easier to modulate than what I came from(csg c21). I do enjoy the drastic reduction in bedding as well. I haven’t had issues with fading but I’m also running them with 15” rotors and have OEM cooling ducts so ymmv.
Strange but the EBC blue stuff pads had a bad flutter but when I switched to G-Loc pads it completely went away. So bizarre
I legit just installed the same pads and rotors and the squealing is driving me nuts. It’s only from my passenger side and happens sporadically under light breaking. Everything I have read says it will go away. However I’m at about 400km and it’s still there.
