Brake pads Hawk Performance or OEM Volkswagen
Car drives great-- the new brake / pad combination gives it a firmer pedal feel than the stock setup (which I found pretty soft/grabby in comparison). It's not Porsche-firm but its world's better than the stock setup-- for comparison it's much lighter than the pedal in something like a Porsche 993, but quite a bit firmer / less grabby than the stock setup on recent BMWs. I greatly prefer the firmer feel to the stock setup, as I find it more confidence-inspiring and it makes for much easier heel/toe downshifting.
I bought a VR6 4Motion wagon for my mom 4 years ago, and it's still running great. The brakes are a bit overboosted, and are very grabby, but once you get used to it, it's actually not bad at all.
I have Hawk HPS currently all around. Rears have almost 25k miles on them and still a lot of pad left. That said I had about 7mm of pad on the stock rears when I took them off so it may just be my driving style.
My Mk2 VR had the full Corrado G60 front and rears. I used Zimmermann stock replacement rotors and Hawk HP Plus pads. They did an excellent job.
i have hawk ceramic brake pads front and rear along with ss brake lines on my 2012 golf R. I got them from ecs tuning and they work great! nice improvement over stock.
I am on Hawk HPS and I absolutely love them, great bite. Buddies in there STI's were shocked at how fast my car stopped and how hard the brakes bit. Very low dusting, takes about 5X as long to see dust as the stock pads.
My R32 with new brakes is unreal, stops way better then my jetta, the car you drove must of had shot brakes, Mine will smash my face in to the steering wheel is im not careful that how hard I can stop. I got stock callipers with hawks HPS pads all round made the car so much better
Phaeton brake pads have a sensor attached that when pads have worn sufficiently thin, the sensor will wear through and provide the brake warning light to illuminate. The warning means that you need to replace the pads in the near future.
started w/ oem here, way overcooked them and then changed to hawk hps (no HP+ for the R which was what I liked). Used them last year and cooked the fronts good and used them up, not enough bite for me, but felt a bit better than oem.
Last year I switched to HP+s and have been unimpressed. imo they are fairly vague. I've also found the dust from the HP+s to be very corrosive.
