Brake pads Hawk Performance or OEM Volkswagen
my strategy when I started to run into a similar type of problem (brake pads disintegrating and eating my budget) was to go to endurance race pads - for me the Hawk ER1 pads seem to be working well.
I use Hawk Blue pads, they brake great and don't wear out.
I recently put Hawk Performance Ceramics (yellow box) on my FL5 for daily driving to combat the insane amount of brake dust that OEM pads have. So far they feel really good! They seem to have an initial bite that is a little more aggressive than the OEM pads, but still have good modulation. FWIW I live in the south and I haven't yet driven them in cold temps. I've read that ceramics can have a weaker initial bite when temps are near freezing but I haven't had a chance to evaluate that.
Hawk DTC 70 or 60 are great and not too expensive, plus they didn't squeel for me on the street.
Hawk 5.0 Street Pads, if u want to do a mix of street, spirited and track driving, I run them on my GR86, and no issue. Though they do squeel a bit when its cold out.
i run HP+ for track days, will be doing my 4th on them in a few weeks. they are plenty for my level of driving. i take them off after my track day because they are loud and filthy. but for on-track, they are perfect.
I have used HPS 5.0 for a long time now. They do dust a decent amount.
I really like my hawk er1’s. They work whether they’re cold or hot. I daily drive my rx8 during the summer, and drive to track days and autoX. They are squeaky and pretty dusty
I tried Hawk HP+ dual use but they were exactly as people warned. Worst of both worlds.
Happens to me as well on the track. The Hawk “ street performance” pads I used aren’t cutting it.
