Brake pads Mintex or OEM Honda
My 2001.5 GLS V6 5-speed needs new rotors and pads. I purchased 4 Meyle rotors (fronts and rears) and Mintex pads.
OEM 12.3 Front Brake Upgrade with Mintex Redbox Pads (January 2008) Eurospec Slotted and Cross-Drilled 11 inch Rear Rotors with Mintex Redbox Pads (January 2008)
fk coilovers, VR6 top mounts, eibach anti roll bars, powerflex bushes all round, strut braces front and rear, audi tt front brake callipers and carriers, brembo 312mm cross drilled front discs, brembo cross drilled rear discs, mintex fast road pads all round. goodridge brake hoses all round.
I had a squeal and rattle that was cured by using brake grease as opposed to the "brake quiet" stuff. I put some brake grease on all the points that the pads slide on the caliper brackets. First I cleaned them with brake cleaner, then scraped any rust off and then applied the grease.
NEW Mintex front 10.1 brake pads $45 NEW Mintex rear 9.4 brake pads $20
I have the ECS stage1 fronts with mintex C-Tech racing pads and R32 vented rears with stock pads, Super Blue fluid. At summit point Shennedoah circuit which is pretty hard on brakes, I experienced NO fade at all. The pads maintained impressive bite lap after lap, even during one 40 minute session.
I've heard there was in issue with this with mintex pads for the Passat. the red boxes would just start up under high heat
For JUST street driving (no canyon runs or autox), they are fine. But, they are NOT performance pads, so you don't want to be running on them if you're rcing the car or really hammering the brakes when you drive.
My Mintex Redboxes are ALSO not LOW DUST as claimed by the company. IMO, they dust much more than OEM pads. My Long Beaches always turn gunmetal after 2 or 3 days of daily commuting. Also, the brake pads gives off an unpleasant smell, but not a big issue.
These are some TERRIBLE brakes, I almost got into a couple of major accidents because these brakes completely overheat and stop working. I will never buy Mintex again.
