My 12 of this generation is at 222k miles with just oil changes and tires as well. One set of pads and rotors at 175k and still had life left.

OEM Hyundai Brake pads

I am just now contemplating a sad goodbye to my 2003 Elantra VLE. It needs a brake job but has become a rust bucket driving in harsh winter conditions, Ottawa, Montreal.

Pros: basic maintenance diligently done
Cons: rust bucket
Vehicle: Hyundai Elantra

I have a 21 Kona this was my 3rd winter with it here in NL, no rust proofing and they love using 1000% salt on our roads, no issue on my whatsoever. I have it checked every time we get our wheels changed sometimes they have to greese the pins on the breaks but no corrosion or anything.

Pros: no corrosion issues
Vehicle: Hyundai

OEM Mazda Brake pads

Changed the pads front and rear was super easy and straight forward. Then after taking the car out of 'electric brake service mode' and starting the car I get the a yellow check engine light and code C05AB, clearing it made no difference. Only thing I could find online was "The electronically controlled brake unit detects that the pressure feed valve (primary side) is stuck ON (OPEN)."

Pros: easy installation, straightforward
Cons: check engine light, code C05AB
Vehicle: Mazda 3

i remember hearing a guy complain about his cx5 eating through brakes, but the cx5 is the same car as my mazda3, and my mazda3 has seen 70,000km for its rear brake pad/ 90,000km for the fronts, and I drive a mix of city/highway.

Pros: 70,000km rear brake pad
Cons: cx5 eating through brakes
Vehicle: Mazda 3
Mileage: 70000 km

Had to take out a loan fr 3k for brake pads and labour to put them on. From a huge well known dealership. Local mechanic did the same thing for around 300 dollars a year later when they failed.

Pros: cheaper local mechanic
Cons: expensive dealership service
Vehicle: Hyundai

Mazda brakes are notoriously shit. They’re garbage. Buy a set of PowerStop brakes and be done with it. They’re far superior to the Mazda brakes. Go on any forum and you’ll see countless people having the same issue as you. New brakes between 15-20,000 miles. Me included. I’ve owned 2 6s from new. Both needed brakes around 20,000 miles. Both times I put on PowerStops and never had another issue.

Pros: PowerStop superior, no more issues
Cons: Mazda brakes garbage
Vehicle: Mazda 6
Mileage: 20000 km
