Brake pads OEM Subaru or Mintex
I upgraded the pads and rotors to drilled Zimmerman discs that I painted black except for swept area and Mintex pads from Autotech.
For future reference I use Mintex pad all round (occasionally Pagid) Cross reference Front Pads MDB 2601 Rears MDC 1924 Front 365mm Floating Discs VW PATTERN PART ONLY!
I had a similar problem years ago with a set of Mintex pads. This might not be the recommended way to fix it, but I just rubbed the brake pads on the concrete floor to wear them down a little so they fit...never had a problem with them after that.
As for brake pads i am currently running Mintex Extreme all around , but will try to play later on also with the options from Pagid (i want to see if i can keep the car in the temp range needed for Pagid blue).
New rotors and brake pads from http://autohausaz.com . ATE rotors and Mintex pads. Notice grease on rotors...I washed it off with dishsoap and water, but there is spray you can buy that makes it real easy as well.
I've heard there was in issue with this with mintex pads for the Passat. the red boxes would just start up under high heat
For JUST street driving (no canyon runs or autox), they are fine. But, they are NOT performance pads, so you don't want to be running on them if you're rcing the car or really hammering the brakes when you drive.
I had a set of Mintex Red Boxes on my '98 GTI-VR6. Other than producing less dust (or a less-visible dust), I thought they were garbage. The stock pads stopped and felt better.
mintex reds are WORSE than stock in my opinion....i bought some, and got ride of em a few months later
IMHO, the brakes are also awful.
