Brake pads POWER STOP or OEM Volkswagen
No complaints on bite/fade or fitment.
I have power stops on my 17. I’ve had them on there for probably like 75k miles. Cars at like 150k. Oddly enough, it’s my back pads that are closest to needing to be replaced, even though I put them on like 5k miles after my fronts. No pulsing, shaking, etc. they’ve been great. I figured the drilled/slotted for keeping cool on the track might make them less likely to get messed up in puddles and thus far they haven’t disappointed.
I put a set of PowerStop Z36 on my 2008 Silverado 1500 w/ rear drums and the improvement in brake performance was substantial.
Got the OEM brakes installed not too long ago and they’re definitely worth the install. Two year warranty with them at VW.
Centric rotors and Powerstop brake pads, I have the Z23s. They stop well and very little dust.
Power stop z17 all the way. Very good quality pad. Never really knew that pad quality mattered until I had a couple cars with squeaky brakes only to find out that installing the power stop pads resolved the squeak. They’re always good about coming with hardware.
Looks like a good project. I would be concerned about what you described about the brakes. It could be alot of different things causing that issue.
I've used Power Stop Z17 and Z23 on many many vehicles with no issues. No noise, low dust, excellent bite.
Initially had a "tinny" sound PLUS a rubbing sound on the fronts that coincides with the wheel rotation PLUS a bit of squeel when stopping when cold. The sounds are still therre. It's very noticeable at low speeds (below 10MPH). Brake dust is very minimal.
I can wear through an entire set in one day in a gen 1 brz. They did manage to stop the car more or less okay, but they wear like butter.
