Brake pads Textar or Centric
I always use Textar - a boggo (albeit OE) brand, and never, ever have a problem.
Pros: reliable, no problems
I just daily my 17 GTI. The stock pads and rotors finally gave up at 103k miles. I was perfectly happy with the oem brakes, but not spending $700. I went Zimmerman and Texstar pads. So far no complaints, they feel like the stock brakes when they were new.

I got genuine discs from ML performance for much much less than dealer prices, coupled with textar pads made to the same spec as M4 pads (M4 pads are also a drop in upgrade, I believe textar is OE for M4 pads), noticed minimal difference in performance though.
Pros: much cheaper, same spec

Lol definitely avoid duralast. My favorite combo is Centric OE coated rotors and Centric posi-quiet pads.

Yup. Many times. I use centric/raybestos on my race miata and on my dailies. I have been using the powerstop race pads too.

The MK7 R community seems to like Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic Though I had a love-hate relationship on them. Centric claims no bedding was necessary... so, I listened to them and found the lack of braking dangerous. Then, one late night, on an empty highway, I bedded them in with about 10, 70-5 mph medium to hard slow downs, got the rotors heated up and brake pads smelling... then drove on the highway for about half hour, then turned around and went home and let the brakes completely cool. Then I loved the brakes.

Cons: lack of braking dangerous

I recently replaced some on a 981 with Textar and don’t recommend it. So much dust and some noise at low speed braking.
