Brake pads Zimmermann or OEM FORD
I have a 2016 ST3, 114k miles, OEM brakes at 6mm or so, I mostly do highway.
I bought the Zimmerman/Akebono kit when the E92 needed front brakes. I'm amazed how brake dust has been nearly eliminated and it has good bite.
I hate the brake dust and went with the Zimmerman/Akebono kit, it's amazing how clean the wheels have been since installing them.
That's probably the kit I'd go with for my GLI. Again, as a daily driver... it meets the needs. The semi-metallic pads work good in many different temp ranges. However, semi-metallic pads also produce more brake dust, so you'll get more debris on your rotors faster. One of the other downsides is that they're more aggressive on the braking rotor because they're metallic, so you'll need to check your rotors more often for thinning.
Been doing some research and debate myself. Come to the conclusion I would stick New Edge brakes in there. V6 and GT got the same brake package, and it's pretty robust, easy to find, and cheap. Remember it's designed for a 3000+ lb car and you're going to a 2400 lb car, so it's already overbraked, and being light it'll be easy on its consumables.
I bought the Zimmerman kit with ceramic pads from FCPEuro for $530 front and rear and did the work myself.
They work great they are an oem supplier.
Focus ST: Con -Using brakes to offset torque steer a bit lame. And contributes to crazy brake dust
I purchased Zimmerman pads and rotors from FCP. FCP is fine but the Zimmerman brakes squeal like a bitch.
I can't believe the brakes used here, this is after all the 'Sport' model out of the Taurus lineup so therefor it should have received a better braking setup.
