Dash cam VIOFO or BLACKVUE
went this one and happy
I have a Blackvue front/rear. Solid units and they stand up to the nasty summer heat here.
I use a VIOFO E1 Pro because it’s smaller and there’s barely any real estate on the front windshield.
I’ve got a viofo 119 mini in mine. I wired it to the outlet in the passenger footwell and tucked the wire into the trim (pulled the a pillar). Great cam and you can’t tell it’s there.
Got a Viofo A229 for mine the 2 channel one with Starvis 2 sensor. Caught the lady who hit mine in 4k sent the vid to the cop and she cited her for improper lane change
I use the Viofo A329 front and rear on both of my cars with the hard wire kit. It’s a 4K 60 FPS front sensor, and HD rear camera, and with the hard wire kit it automatically starts with the car and turns on parking mode. And they have an adjustable low voltage control so it won’t drain the battery if parked for a long time. Great clarity at night and works well for capturing fast moving objects with the faster sensor.
There are two advantages to using two single channel dash cams rather than a two channel dash cam. Redundancy, and longer record time. Any dash cam is better than no dash cam. The best dash cam I am aware of is the Viofo A329, It does better than most at night, but all dash cams are bad at night (motion blur and over exposed license plates). I've got a Blackvue DR970x-2ch. The newer version of it is the DR979x-2ch Plus II. This has the Sony Starvis 2 sensor like recommended in other posts. They're very reliable cameras since they don't have batteries in them. Dash Cams with batteries stand a higher chance of exploding in the heat of a parked car. Make sure you use a high endurance micro sd card since the camera deletes the oldest videos as time goes by. The card will have a ton of reads and writes so the basic cards won't cut it. You set the cameras up with your phone and the images from the cameras will show on the screen. This is how you'll align the cameras to make sure they get the best view. Check the videos on the card or the live feed from the cameras from time to time to make sure everything is still working.
A dashcam someone overpaid for. I think I compared the Toyota unit to an aftermarket one and for half the price you can get a good Viofo A129 with rear camera and the hardwire accessory kit.
My VIOFO A329S has been problematic. The problems I’m having are that the cam will disable, without warning, any parking mode settings leaving the cam shut down when parked. You have no way to know that’s happened. It also beeps a lot for no reason that I can tell. I’m ready to return this thing and get a refund. I thought I’d give this camera a try due to it smaller footprint on my windshield as compared to my old Vantrue I feel like I made a mistake and a costly one of that.
