Castrol Engine oil

Had an 02 explorer with the 4.0 that had 286,000 and still running like a champ when I sold it. It was on its second transmission and everything in the vehicle was falling apart but that motor never once had an issue. Regular maintenance and oil changes every 10 to 15k using Castrol GTX fully synthetic

Pros: motor never had an issue
Cons: vehicle was falling apart
Mileage: 286000 km

MOTUL Engine oil

I don't think you will find anything but Selenia as "approved" but you will find plenty of "meeting specification". I know that meet the -GH2 spec and those are Motul (which I use), Fuchs and Ravenol. But long story short...match the specification designation from a good oil brand and you're golden

Pros: meets specification, good oil
Vehicle: Alfa Romeo Giulietta

 • Engine noise:

I use Motul V300 5w-40. Expensive oil change but no additive breakdown at 3k changes.

Pros: no additive breakdown
Cons: expensive oil change

Castrol Engine oil

It’ll be okay. Subaru engines are robust and that mix rate won’t increase the viscosity enough to affect the oil flow rate out to the cams.
Pardon my skepticism regarding Castrol oils though. Haven’t been a fan of them since the GTX days. The additives they’d chuck in their generically sourced base oils glazed bores and gummed lifters.
Cost many a machine shop like ours a fortune in comeback work.

Cons: glazed bores, gummed lifters
Vehicle: Subaru
