Engine oil LIQUI MOLY or Castrol
My 2019 consumed maybe 1/2qt for the first two oil changes. Swapped to Liqui Moly last 2 changes and been zero oil consumption.
my personal analysis’ on my s54 over the past 7 years using LM 10/60 have all been perfectly fine with low wear numbers.
I've been using the original castrol 10-60 oil and then more recently the BMW M TwinPower 10-60 oil for the last 10 years on my e46 M3.
I was running Castrol 0w30 European formula in my 07 323i and the car ticked a lot and made noises I’ve never heard it make previously when running 5w30. So recently I swapped to castrol 5w40 European formula and the car is whisper quite even on cold starts. It just sounds so much healthier.
I've used both and have put over 50,000 miles on my B46 (b48) without any issues. I think the liqui moly might be a little quieter, but otherwise no difference I can find. I would not put a heavier oil than the engine was designed for. These engines are a little noisy IMO but that doesn't mean anything is wrong. I actually think mine is quieter now at 88,000 then when I bought it at 34,000.
Liqui Moly 0w20 6200 is what I run and a factory filter
I've been putting in Castrol Full Sythnetic 5W30 in my 2.8VR6 for 13 years and I've been told the engine is in great condition (264,000 km).
Another happy Mann filter and Liqui Moly oil user. I currently use 0w40 because I’m in the frozen north, but used 5w40 previously.
I run Castrol 5w40 in all my VWs. 2.0, 1,8T, and my mk7 2.0T all have used it and I've been happy with it.
Also going to switch from Motul to LiquiMoly and see if I can tell a difference.
