Engine oil LIQUI MOLY or Castrol
5w40 liquidmoly
Imo Mobil 1 is mid grade at best. Liqui-moly is the only thing I’ve used for the last 5 years, I too started with Mobil 1, then switched to liquimoly (same weight) and the engine was immediately quieter, smoother, and ran cooler.
I put some Castrol 0w20, no issues.
my 2017 Passat got totaled in a accident this week, was at 205062 miles running strong off Liqui Molygen 5w-40.
Castrol mangnetec gave me good performance but in city conditions it gave inconsistent fuel economies for me and under normal cruising speed 80-90 it performed really good. But for me it felt like reaching higher speeds above 100 felt slower compared to shell. Initial pick up of my car felt higher with this oil.
I have a 2012 civic with 220k miles still use Castrol 0w-20. I've been using it since 500 miles switched to the high mileage stuff around 100k
Castrol Edge is usually cheaper than Mobil 1 and will be as good.
Can use 5w30 or 5w40.
0w40 or 5w40 will give you slightly better engine protection if you drive at high rpms more often.
I wouldn't use anything cheaper or different than those two really. You don't need more expensive oils than those either.
Castrol edge is just fine, even the cheapest one is likely better than whatever was good 20 years ago.
I had been using LM in our Euro vehicles for years until prices started to climb. I switched to the appropriate Mobil 1 oil earlier this year. There is not enough difference in test results to make me stay with LM once the price difference became as big as it was during my last TDI oil change.
Liqui moly apparently it’s not good oil, they’re just good at marketing
