Engine oil Mobil or OEM Toyota
I ran Mobil 1 ESP 5w40 in my 2.0 TDI for 80k miles and it was great. However it was discountinued so I switched to the Mobil 1 euro spec 5w30 ESP and continued to 120k miles and shortly after switching it gained nearly 2mpg. Both oils remained steady on the dipstick so if it used oil it was very little.
I used light 5w-30 Edge and 0w-30 Mobil 1 SL in my APR 2.0T 6M and had ultra low wear.... With all the advantages of light oil.
I've had issues with Mobil1 0w-40 oil, even though it "meets the spec", and switching to a different brand resulted in less timing chain and valve train noise, and quieter cold starts, which typically means less wear, so I switched.
If it's a stock engine use 5-30. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 5-30 in my b18c and it's been good for thousands of miles.
I don't see any 0W-16s available from the usual suspects but found a mention of a Mobil Super 0W-16 on mobil.jp.
Personally, I would buy Mobil 1 5w-40 Turbo Diesel Truck. Not the VW spec oil. The Mobil oil has much higher amounts of zinc which helps reduce the cam wear inherit to that engine. I have been using it in my BRM and just checked my cam the other day with 70k miles on it and it looks perfect.
If I do the oil change, I only use Mobile 1 0W-40 Synthetic European Formula. I get them at Walmart for $25.50 for 5 quarts. For oil filter, I usually buy it from the VW dealer.
Mobil 1 of varying weights for all of my cars. Been using it for years and it's served me well.
I use Mobil1 0W-40 on my 1.8T with 150,000 miles and engine is definitely quieter after oil change.
Mobil 1 5W-30 and a matching oil filter. '93 244 with 311,000 miles.
