OEM Mazda Engine oil

Rating 4.0
  • Exhaust smoke:

No, but I did keep 2 quarts of oil and a gallon jug of water. My Mazda Protege was notorious for burning oil and overheating

Pros: kept oil and water
Cons: burning oil, overheating
Vehicle: Mazda Protege

OEM Mazda Engine oil

Change the oil at a minimum, and do it regularly. Use a quality synthetic high mileage oil and change it again in a couple thousand miles, then change on regular 5k mile intervals.

Pros: quality synthetic oil
Vehicle: Mazda 6

Lucas Engine oil

I have a 2012 gmc terrain 2.4l currently at 202k. I’ve used Lucas oil and restore and protect Valvoline oil the last 50k. Still runs like a gem with 177-182-179-175 compression cylinders 1-4. Used to be 155-149-144-168 before I started using both these oils

Pros: runs like a gem
Mileage: 202000 km

OEM Mazda Engine oil

I have run 0w20 in my 2013 Mazda 3 skyactiv for 244,000 miles. It doesn't burn or leak any oil between changes. I change the oil and filters every 5-6,000 miles.

Pros: no burning or leaking
Vehicle: Mazda 3
Mileage: 244000 km

Lucas Engine oil

I exclusively have used Lucas oil for my sportster motor for 5 years. The bottle looks cool, that's it. Full synthetic oil, no frills, cheap, and easy to get.

Pros: cheap, easy to get
Cons: no frills

OEM Mazda Engine oil

I personally am changing my own oil with full synthetic on my 23 2.5T every 6000 km or so. No need other than peace of mind for me. Doing it myself only takes 30 minutes and $35 in oil, filter and crush washer.

Pros: peace of mind
Vehicle: Mazda 3
Mileage: 6000 km

Rating 3.0
  • Engine noise:

Lucas OS works great. It's some amazing stuff, BUT. Do not go over your oil change intervals. Once the Lucas additive starts breaking down it turns to a nasty varnish. Went 7k using synthetic amsoil z-rod and Lucas OS, on a new rebuilt 4.0l. Lost a lifter and ate up the cam lobe.

Pros: amazing stuff
Cons: turns to nasty varnish
Mileage: 7000 km
