Engine oil OEM Toyota or ELF
I change mine every 5,000 miles and the oil is dirt black when I drain it. I have a Rav 4 with the same AR25 engine and I want my vehicle to last as long as possible.
It’s a fact that frequent oil changes are better than not. Anyone Toyota Master (NOT tech) will tell you every 5k and for good reason. Want to go by the manual and do every 10k? Go for it, but that’s insane. If you want your car to last as long as possible, change every 5k.
I’ll be doing my first one at 1000 miles, then I’ll be doing them every 5000 miles or 6 months.
I found a dealership that sells the Toyota oem at 5.90 a quart so that’s what I use. It’s made by Mobil 1 but has certain additives added specifically for Toyota specifications that regular Mobil 1 doesn’t have. Technically it’s what the 4Runner will run best with.
Toyota synthetic. I was going to do Mobile 1 but noticed a few claims of people using both saying it shifted a little more smoothly with the Toyota oil
I change my oil at dealer every 10k miles. This time I am going to pay $299 for a package of 5 oil changes, with tire rotations, filter and all liquids fililled up if necessary.
From the 21 Camry owners manual: “SAE 0W-16 is the best choice for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather. If SAE 0W-16 is not available, 0W-20 oil may be used. However, it must be replaced with 0W-16 at the next oil change.”
I suggest you to use 5W40. I have a Toyota Auris and i change them every 7.500km without filter change and at 15.000 km with filter change. In my city at summer the temperature is about 40°C on summer and I have 257.000 km. I haven't any problems till now. My engine running smooth and never burned oil.
I plan to run Toyota oil in my rav4. In the past, I would have never considered running OEM oil and I would tell most people it's a waste of money to do that. However, I've seen a few reports showing Toyota 0w-16 as having more than 700ppm of molybdenum in it, and it isn't from assembly lube used when putting the engines together.
I don't recommend toyota oem fluid for hard driving because it seems to cook easily.
