Engine oil OEM Toyota or OEM Audi
I feel it is a good idea to change the oil after the first 500-1000 miles.
I do this just in case something got left behind in the manufacturing process that I don't want circulating in the engine.
There is no guarantee this will make any difference in the life of the engine.
I did my 2024 corolla cross at 1300 miles. Will do it again at 5k miles, and then standard 5k after that. Toyota does them at 10k because it saves them money since they give you a couple free ones off the get go.
I changed my 24 Camry hybrid at 1500 miles. The oil was BLACK and there were a fair amount of metal fragments in the oil as well. For me, the cost to rid the engine of th ebreak-in metal wear is totally worth the $30 it cost me to do it.
The car care nut says to do it, so I will trust him. My '24 Corolla SE Hybrid is at 802 miles and there is a 5 quart bottle of Mobil One Advanced Fuel Economy full Synthetic 0W-16 and a Mobil One extended performance high capacity filter waiting for tomorrows early oil change.
First 500-1000 miles is probably a good idea since there are likely metal bits left over from the manufacturing process and, although they get cleaned very well, the oil does a much better job of it and you don't want those bits floating around in yiur oil or in your engine itself.
After that, you can change your oil as often as you want as long as its under ~10k miles. Most people recommend 5k miles bc oil will pick up debris and metal shaving and what not and 10k is a bit long to let it go unless you're using a much higher quality filter like amsoil or Mobil 1. Most full synthetic oils will last longer than 10k miles these days, but I wouldn't push it due to the debris it picks up.
I got my first oil change at 1065 miles following Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician youtube personality The Car Care Nut's advice to do the first one at 1000 miles, and will follow a 5000 mile / 6 month schedule going forwards.
We haven\u2019t done anything but oil changes since buying it.
For newer vehicles I am in the camp of: if you want the car to last a long time use the 5K change interval with the exception being in the first 10 K. For the first 10K miles I would do 3 changes (not just 2) to be sure any debris/material from the break in process is cleaned/ cleared out quickly before it can potentially metastasize into a bigger issue (much later on);
On my 1.8ts I usually change it when the motor blows up and has to be replaced. They used to last perpetually but builds have progressed to the "Yes it absolutely is going to grenade or window the block before 10k miles???? so really I only ever have to FILL oil 1 time???? I wish this was less true than it actually is. On the rest, (2.7tt and 4.2) 10k miles if you use good full synthetic oil and a nice filter
I used Toyota OEM oil twice and was disappointed by the way it changed color at less than 5,000 kms. Two different mechanics asked me if I had delayed the oil change. Since then I started using Synthetic 0W-20 and never had any complaints.
