Bridgestone Potenza S01 Pole Positions or RE050A are far superior...
I'll run mine 'till the wheels fall off. It's been relatively trouble free - most all problems were fixed while it was under warranty. Front pads & rotors were replaced twice, latest at 30K. So far, so good, but the rear pads are ready for replacement now - will replace rotors also.
They are worn evenly and look & ride great. I think the Cooper Touring tires are a nice compliment and the ride is far nicer than the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11s that were on the \"borrowed\" wheels.
For example, Maxxis MA-Z1's cost me $135ea and last about 30,000kms, but the Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001's on my car at the moment can get about 60-80,000kms, but cost $185ea.
They do work excellent. I've had them for a couple seasons now and they look good!
I had the WS-50 on my Miata (came with it) and they were fanfukintastic in snow and ice but lasted about 20,000 miles total before turning into slippy dangerous banana peels while still showing 6/32 remaining.
Last winter I made the switch from studded Pirelli Winter Carvings to studless Bridgestone Blizzak WS60s... I was extremely impressed with them. Worked great in the white stuff.
I have the potenza pole position tires on my jetta and I will be getting a new set of the potenza tires come spring they handle wear and ride great for my jetta.
Yes, WS50 are like bars of soap on dry roads. Almost dansgerously slick... Don't corner too hard on them, you'll be in the ditch fast. I had that wonderful experience on my 97 GTP... If you bear that in mind, they are phenomenal in snow and especially on ice
I had a set of RE050A Pole Position, they wore out in about 10k miles. All highway miles!
