Just put a set of 329s on my A4 and already feel a huge improvement in the ride quality.
I'd get Dunlop Q3's. Q3's have more grip than you'll ever need. They warm up fast(1 lap on the track, or a couple of minutes on the street), grip extremely well, and talk decently well for a street tire.
I just switched from PSS to ZII and did my first event last two days ago. I prefer the ZII for track days. It feels more precise and did well in the wet. I felt that it was a bit easier to modulate braking on the ZII. On the street it seems a bit louder and there is more feel from expansion seams and other road surface defects.
I run Falken 512 in 205/45/16 on 16x7 wheels. I wouldn't run 40 sidewall, particularly if stretched onto an 8.
Once you talk about ditching the crap Dunlops that come from the factory and adding a rear sway bar, you are talking big-time fun.
I HIGHLY suggest Falken Azenis PT722. My local Audi Indy shop is practically getting all of their customers on these after they had it on their performance Audis.... And they loved them. I put them on my Passat.... Best tire I have had on that car.
I have the azenzias on my GLI and they're still on in this winter, and have been really impressed.
Obviously wish falken was still making 512's but overall very happy so far.
they stretch great...theyre no 512s, but 512s are crappy tires other than to stretch with
The OEM A/S Dunlop has a 92 sidewall rating; it certainly isn't "soft." it is, unfortunately, just a weak tire design/build in this case I've lost 3 already as well and currently running a 4th with a bubble... they suck
