Tires Falken or DUNLOP
I got some Falken winter tires (Northeast Ohio), they worked great for me last year, but the snow we get here in Ohio is laughable by Minnesota standards.
I run 245/40/17 Dunlop Direzza star spec at the track, they have been great
YES< Subaru ahs better AWD, but put on Tig good snow tires like Dunlop M3 or Pirelli or Michelin, and there is no obstacle. I used those tires on FWD and RWD cars in Southern Alps and never had issues, never got stuck, always break on a dime. With 4Motion they are unstoppable.
I love my Falkens. Pretty quiet, no hydroplaning and cheap! Pretty decent grip in wet and dry. Terrible in snow. And They seem to be a very soft rubber that wears a little quick.
just imagine the time if those ****ty dunlop all sesasons were replaced with a decent michelin pilot a/s, bf goodrich g force kdw, or continental extreme contact dws. guaranteee that time would drop by another half second or so.
brand new falken 912s: 2- 205/40, 2- 215/45..... for only 300
I've had 512s on three of my cars. Great mileage out of them and they do great in wet and dry...
Was running Avid W4s Yokohama’s on 14" Snowflakes and nothing bad to say till 20% tread, then a loose feeling... rain was good. I'm now running 195/50/15 Falken ZE912 high performance all season and also come in 14, with the stiff coils all around I have little to no push in corners and better off on the wider stance zero off-set rims. Now the main reason is they are a great wet tire and still trying to make the front push... my buddy ran them on his BMW and didn't like the oversteer feeling of the tire folding?!!? but I'm firm believer curb weight has heaps to do with it.... my 3 cents in rainy vancouver
I bought some Falken Ziex ZE-912s for my Magny Cours because I was hoping to sell my car and I needed something inexpensive. Turns out, they're a pretty good tire. The sidewall is too soft on them for something that claims high performance, but they do grip really well. The suck in the snow however, so I wouldn't depend on them for that (despite their all-season claim).
On my S2000, about 2 weeks ago had brand new Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs installed by a local garage. A few days later, the driver's side rear tires was extremely low on air pressure, that I noticed after the car was pulling to one side during acceleration/letting off the gas pedal.
