Tires Hankook or Continental
I popped one at 32k miles so I swapped for Conti CrossContacts, they’ve been great in snow, rain, and light mud.
Go for the Continentals. I’ve done the research for you, and lived it. These tires will take anything perfectly unless you decide to hit your breaks going down hill….gravity was the only thing I found wrong, but what would any other tire do. I’ve had these tires for 4 + years. I swapped them the first 2 years, and ran them straight the last two years, and there’s still .8 tread left from the original . 10. I’m actually trying to wreck these tires so I can buy a new set, but they’re hanging on. My next set will be these tires. I even passed up those famous Finish tire brands nobody can pronounce for these, and glad l did.
I had a set of Dynapro ATMs on my 2nd gen for several years. They had a 3PMSF rating and worked great in the snow while the tread was still deep (traction obviously degraded as they aged).
Caveat: They were the aftermarket versions. I'm unsure if they're the exact same quality as the OEM tires.
Ok, this is the first time doing some snow driving on the Pro4x with the hankook. I must admit the tires handle snow very well! I thought about airing them down but decided not to. The tires felt really good, and I drove with no issues. They do suck in the rain, but in the snow they handle well.
I switched to Continentials 2 yrs ago and haven't had a single flat since.
Hankook RS4 will last forever, but they are endurance tires - they will be on the slower side of the 200 spectrum.
So I ended up going with the 185/65r14 Hankooks (891 revs/mile) ... Balancing is actually pretty good for a manual bubble-level. Smooth up to ~85mph and then a tiny vibration starts and gets a little worse around 95. That's fine.. I stay under 80mph 99.999% of the time anyway. And speedo is dead-accurate, now, too, for the first time in my 19 years of ownership.
I switched my run flats with Continental TrueContact Tour54 and the experience is night and day. Such a smooth and quite drive. The whole car genuinely feels much lighter.
The Advan wheels on my miata came with dws06+. Was really happy with the performance but what annoyed me so much about them was the tapered profile and narrow tread. Wet performance wasn't a concern for that car so I replaced them with the firehawks in the same size. The tread is almost an inch wider and they dont look stretched on the wheels.
I upgraded to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 AS at 6,000 miles. Money extremely well spent. The car feels like it’s on rails now. getting rid of those kinergys was a must. Terrible tire
