I ended up buying hankook i-cept evo'2s for my winter wheels this year (they have the highest speed rating out of all the tires on simple tire.com) they are affordable and honestly I'm really impressed with them so far this winter.
Currently on 195/50 Hankook Ventus V2’s and they’ve been great. They look and perform great for a DD.
If you are looking for a pure track tire, have you looked at something like the Hankook RS4? Those seem to be very popular track tires and last well based on what I have seen.
Highly rate Kumhos and have happily put them on anything from my daily to my high performance 4wd fun car.
Hankook Ventus Noble 2. Good W-rated tires, high skid plate rating, wears well if run a few pounds hot.
I got a set of Kumho WINTERCRAFT ICE Wi31 from Quattro Tires which have been great for me. Quiet and good traction in snow.
My best experiences have been with Hankook I-pike studless snows. I'd be willing to bet that they could hang with or out perform some of the pricier options listed here. They are great when roads are wet too.
Hankook Ice Pike's are the best all around snow tire that have used. Wear, road noise and dry handling were much better than Bridgestone's, and any of the others that I have tried over the years. No perceivable loss in snow traction on a TSX wagon under normal snow conditions.
The OE tires (Kumho Solus KL21) still have probably 25% of the tread remaining, so they're not in need of replacement for that reason... even though they have become pretty noisy and have a bit of feathering around the edges.
I had the Ventus V12 Evos on my Focus ST, and I didn't like them.
