Tires MICHELIN or Continental
Spend a few more bucks and get Michelin. They will last longer and you’ll have a better ride the whole time. It’s worth the extra few bucks.
Defender 2 is excellent and reasonably priced
I use Michelin 235 40 18 4S on my MK7 with Neuspeed RSe12 8"x18" and the grip is a tick better than the standard size. This combo is also lighter than the stock wheels and tires...and along with the suspension modifications, it's a difficult subject to try to quantify. I am always concerned with wheel and tire weight...that drives my decision making...if you like the look of a 19" rim, go for it. I think that you will find a larger variable between tire types and widths where ultimate grip is concerned...steering response is in theory better with a lower profile tire, but sidewall construction will also affect steering response with a similar tire size range.
I just put the Pilot Sport 4S tires on my 21 3.3 Sport Prestige and I absolutely love them. I had kuhmos on it before and they were absolutely trash tires compared to these. These new ones are way stiffer and way better performance in turns and just all around feel like a better tire.
Michelin Cross Climate 2's unless off roading.
I like my Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons. Grippy, great wet performance, and it won't break the bank.
I’ve been happy with my Continentals and have never had a customer come back complaining about any set that they’ve bought.
Michelins for the best wear. Not nearly as soft as khumos though so won't grip quit as well. I got 75k out of my last set
I was a loyal GP4000/5000 rider but had to switch a few years back. I think they changed something and it not only became harder to mount them, but it was impossible to break the bead and remove them. I switched to Vittorias but really miss the feel of the GPs. I feel much more confident descending on them.
This happened to my 2021 Arteon (pointed out by others when I got a car wash) a few days ago. It was the front passenger side of the tire. Mileage on the car was about 9000 miles.
