Tires MICHELIN or Cooper
I’d recommend some sporty tires like Michelin pilot sport 4s or Pirelli p zero.
I put Michelin Cross climate 2's on after the stock tires wore out. Been super happy with them. Much better in the rain than the Bridgestone EL 440's. Maybe a slight loss in fuel economy 1-2 mpg in certain situations but mostly unchanged. I'll probably stick with the Michelin's going forward.
I have a friend that runs Firehawk indys and I've driven the car, it's a decent tire. But if you have Michelin budget, get the Michelins. I'm on my 3rd set in a row, fantastic all around tire (unless it's winter)
Michelin PS4s are the best tire I have ever used. Highly recommended.
My Forte GT came with Michelin PS4's, and I've never been happier with a set of OEM tires in my life. They're grippy, quiet and do tire things well. I'm not sure how close they are to the non-OEM PS4's you'd buy off the shelf, but I've been pleased so far.
My loyalties lie with Michelin at this point after 10+ years of Pilot Sport variations on 4 different cars. Being in South FL wet weather traction is important, and the only tire I've driven on that has matched the PS's are the Goodyear Eagle F1 DSg3 that was OE for the GLI, and the current OE spec Goodyear AS2 F1 (something like that) that came on the Cayman but are soon to be replaced with PS4's. Personally, just get the michelins and be done with it. I think the AS4 have a higher treadwear rating, and are slightly less grippy than the PS4, so that may be better for your use case as far as getting more life and having a bit more fun are concerned.
There are several good winter tires. Blizzacks, Nokian, Michelin, Continental are great. IMO I avoid studded winter tires.
Coopers are great tires, I had some on my old WRX and they lasted forever. I live in oregon and ran these tires through quite a few seasons no problem
Michelin? So they’ll be good quality and cost twice as much as any other brand?
The Michelins that came with the 18s and the pro contacts with the 19s were some of the worst handling tires I’ve owned especially in the rain. I’ve never hydroplaned as much as on those tires on any of my previous cars. I wouldn’t want anybody I care about or myself driving on those in the rain. But if it doesn’t rain where you live, they’re pretty nice thanks to the foam.
