Tires MICHELIN or Cooper
Picked up a screw in my rear tire yesterday on the stock tires. Figure I'll just replace the set. I've been getting a bunch of recommendations on Michelin Road 5 Tires.
I put a set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires on my previous Outback and they were great
I've had the GTI nearly 5 years now, and the mod list has been fairly simple: Different OEM wheels with Michelin AS/3+ tires + spacers to make them fit the way they should have stock JB1 piggyback module to give the car the in-gear passing power it should have had stock OEM Clubsport S rear exhaust to make it sound a bit more like a GTI, not an anonymous econobox Driver Gear springs to reduce the +10mm ride height from stock that the DCC equipped cars have All LED exterior light conversion so it doesn't look like it's from 2007 A bunch of VCDS tweaks to enable features the car should have had from the factory (comfort open/close on the windows, for instance) None of this dramatically changes the character of the car, and nothing I've done was terribly expensive; but it has made it more the car I wanted it to be stock.
I have been buying Cooper tires for years on some of my cars so I would recommend at least looking at Cooper CS5, a good tire at a fare price
I went with 205/50R-17 Michelin X-Ice Xi3 SL (from original 225 on 18\") for winter driving on my GTI. Motivation was keeping circumference the same. Have been happy with Michlins in North East.
I drove on a set of Michelin X-Ice 3s during my time in Detroit. We didn’t get tons of snow, but plenty of ice and they held up well.
Same for tires. Michelins are the premium tires to buy. Bfgoodrich is great not as good but made by Michelin. Uniroyal (which makes tiger paws that some people loathe) is a cheap tire made by Michelin.
I just put Cooper Discoverer AT3 on mine and i love them. Plenty of meat on them and quiet
I took advantage of the 4th of July sales and ditched the stock Pirellis for Michelin Sport 4S because I’m going for a road trip along Big Sur and through the Redwoods (Hated the Pirellis).
Recently changed several factors and noticed a rather significant drop in mpgs.... 1) tune - brought the car to stage 1+ with vwr intake 2) winter blend fuel 3) new Michelin a/s 3 tires I used to have the trip computer averaging 28ish, and now I'm seeing about 23 for highway use at 80mph
