Tires MICHELIN or Vredestein
I have 225/45-17 Michelin Pilot Alpin 2's on S-line 5 spoke wheels, worked perfect last year in quite a few storms, great on ice, I could drive comfortably at 40-50 MPH on unplowed highway
I have Michelin X-Ice tires on 18 inch wheels, and I have been very happy with the performance in winter conditions. Yes, they were kind of expensive. Last winter in MN was a crapfest, and I felt very comfortable with those tires in that size.
I have had the Wintrac extreme for 3 years now and did some serious autobahn racing with those babies. I must admit that the tyres are superb, doin' 280kph on the autobahn is no problem.
All I know about them is they make good winter tires (and then... mostly only from reviews - I only have talked to one person who had a set on his car - and reported good results)... supposedly around the same levels as Nokian Hakka's and Gislaved Nord-Frost...
I had these on my A4 avant a coupel years ago. They were the best tires I ever owned. I had the ultrac2 I think. The rubber is very thick. I got a nail in it once and the mechanic at my work was impressed they did not punchure the tire.
A buddy of mine had a set of their snows on his Jetta - he liked them a lot.
A buddy of mine had a set of their snow tires - oh geez, about 10 years ago now? I remember them because they were freaking fantastic - keeping up with 4wd Jeeps in an 84 Accord through Wilson Twp in PA. I just remember driving his car and just could not believe the snow grip.
I have the Michelin Pilot Sports PS2 and I am very happy with them. Superior tire!
i've got about 800+ mi. on a set of Exalto A/S (4 season) on my 4mo wagon and they are a far better tire than the stock Contis (i'll never buy Contis ever again. they NEVER balanced). great cornering and very good in the snow (ok, so it's a 4mo).
I got Michelin Pilot HX MXM 235R45/17 tires on my Eos with Lux. While this is much better than the Goodyear's, I thought it was supposed to have all season tires, not summer tires?
