Tires Nexen or Nokia
Nokian Hakkapeliitta studded would be my #1 choice. Best winter tire imo.
Had blizzacs for years. Got studded Hakkas never going back.
From my experience, Nokian makes the best winter tires. Once you use winter tires on slush, ice and snow, you will never go back to all season tires in winter. With AWD, it's more about being able to turn and brake in slippery conditions than getting started.
I’ve owned 5 sets of Nokian tires and never a single issue with dry rot.
I went with Nokian outpost APTs. only had them for a few weeks and they handle just as well as the road tires I had on previously.
Just thought I’d share some initial impressions.
Car Details: 2020 Model 3 RWD
Original Tires: Michelin Primacy
Miles of original tires: 58,300
New Tires: Nexen N’Blue 4S2
Miles on new tires: 100-200
Road Noise
Nexen (N): quiet. I mean nothing at slow speeds and very light at hwy speeds.
Efficiency
N: Still early days, but all miles in the rain and with gusts from the recent hurricane (it’s not nearly hurricane force winds). Mainly highway this far and was around 250-260kwh.
Ride Quality
N: shockingly noticeable job absorbing bumps. Not like a new suspension, but takes the cringe out of small potholes and bumps.
The Nokian lasts so Long been using it since 2001 in Minnesota and now it's 2024. Rubber and studs like new. Best money I ever spent.
I used to like Blizzaks, then I tried the Nokian Hakkapeliittas and found they worked better for me in Wisconsin winters.
when you lose traction, it feels like it will never get to a stop (and that's with Nokian Hakkapeliittas).
I'm not a fan of Nokian. They dry rot fast.
