Tires Toyo or BRIDGESTONE
We got a big snowfall over Thanksgiving, I have these exact tires on my ND. They're great. Obviously they move around a lot more on dry roads but they are excellent in the snow. Acceleration and cornering are great and I had no issues on fairly steep hills either. Like any tire in the snow though, you must leave plenty of stopping distance.
Used to drive those on my NA and passed stranded vehicles daily in the same weather
They're great in snow/ice.
They can be squirmy on dry pavement.
I’ve been using blizzaks for almost as decade as my winter tires on my ND. My winter wheels are -1” and the tires are slightly larger in diameter than my summers (~1%). They grip and I feel confident when driving in the snow or rain in winter months.
I run the WS90 215/45-17 on my ND. Works great & not a run flat. Extra diameter is negligible.
I have Bridgestone Blizzaks , and although I could probably get similar performance from some all-seasons with aggressive tread, I’ll admit I understand the hype over winter tires now.
Looking forward to the TireRack closeout sale on the RSs.
Also wonder if these will be as stiff as the Sport Rs since it mentioned these are stiffer than the RSs
The previous owner put RE-71s on it. That’s an amazing autocross and track tire but it is not great in the rain. I’ve never driven a Miata on REs in the rain but I have driven other cars on them and it was dicey to say the least, that car had ABS and traction control and I was still limited in the highway.
For reference, crappy and expensive Bridgestone Alenzas (summer tires) were put on mine (21 inch)
I have a 2023 CX-5 Turbo, and was thrilled to replace those Toyos at 28k miles. Those Toyos suck on anything other than dry pavement.
